Opera 10.10 Beta with Opera Unite

A Web server in the Web browser; Opera Unite allows you to download and run Web applications and to share content with others in a quick and easy way.

On June 16, 2009, Opera released the alpha of Opera Unite (running on the Opera 10 beta version of the browser), adding web server capabilities to the web browser through an extensible plug in model called "Services". Opera Unite allows for several services to be hosted from the user’s computer, including a web server for hosting a site, file and photo sharing, chat room and streaming media.

Sun and Oracle

Sun and Oracle today announced a definitive agreement for Oracle to acquire Sun for $9.50 per share in cash. The Sun Board of Directors has unanimously approved the transaction. It is anticipated to close this summer.

The acquisition combines best-in-class enterprise software and mission-critical computing systems. Oracle plans to engineer and deliver an integrated system—applications to disk—where all the pieces fit and work together so customers do not have to do it themselves. Customers benefit as their system integration costs go down while system performance, reliability and security go up.

Universal, YouTube to launch Vevo.com – A music video site

Universal Music Group and YouTube have announced plans for a music video website with artists from the world’s largest music company, the latest industry bid to pull revenue from the Internet. Universal, a subsidiary of France’s Vivendi, and Google, which owns YouTube, said Thursday that the website, to be called VEVO, would be launched later this year.

Universal and YouTube also said they had renewed an agreement that allows users of YouTube to use music by Universal artists in user-generated videos on the popular video-sharing website. Details of the agreement were not disclosed.
