What is Google Chrome OS?

This is a preview for journalists and developers, since for the final release or any RC (release candidate) the wait is long. Currently there is no demo available, but Google has announced that the source code will be "completely open",  just to invite curiosity and independent programmers to work in advance about new improvements and add-ons to the basic core of the software.

Chromium OS is an open-source project that aims to build an operating system that provides a fast, simple, and more secure computing experience for people who spend most of their time on the web. Here you can review the project’s design docs, obtain the source code, and contribute. To learn more about the project goals, read the announcement blog post.

  1. Well if I understand right,
We will have to buy a computer that has a diiferent hardware for it.
The idea is good but just for an internet pc not a workstation,
I need to store large backups of my web sites, work with ftp and ssh to connect to my servers, all that I would not trust a computer that stores my stuff on a other computer that is miles away and that someone else has control over. (someone else has access to my files ? isnt this a privacy concern ?)

But has I said for my kids to play flash games on the net or send e-mails with gmail or connect to my site it’s a great idea just too bat it cant really apply to current hardware (or it would need to have a long hardware detection mechanism).
